Hot weather car care tips
As the summer sun intensifies, it's important to ensure your vehicle stays in top condition, even when it's not on the road. Whether your car is in storage or you're using it occasionally, here are some essential hot-weather tips to keep it protected and performing well.
Hot Weather Car Care Tips
Battery Health
Did you know heat can be more damaging to your battery than cold?
Keep battery terminals clean and ensure it's properly charged. For long-term storage, consider disconnecting the battery or using a maintainer.
Tire Pressure
Heat causes tire pressure to rise, leading to premature wear or even blowouts.
Check tire pressure regularly and inflate to the manufacturer's recommended levels (including the spare!).
Paint & Interior Protection
UV rays can fade paint and damage interiors.
Park in shaded areas, use car covers (especially in storage), and consider applying wax or UV protectant to the paint and interior surfaces.
4. Fluid Levels
Fluids (coolant, oil, transmission) are vital in hot weather.
Check and top off as needed. Overheating is one of the biggest summer breakdown causes.
5. Air Conditioning
Ensure your A/C is running efficiently before you really need it.
If the system isn't cooling well, have it checked for leaks or low refrigerant.
Even in storage, cars need periodic attention:
Start the engine every 2–4 weeks (if possible) to circulate fluids.
Keep your car covered, and consider pest prevention measures.
Crack the windows slightly (if secure) to prevent musty smells.
Avoid parking directly on grass or dirt—concrete or gravel is best to avoid moisture build up underneath.
If your car is in storage, ensure the facility is fully dehumidified throughout to prevent rust, mould, and moisture damage, especially in hot, humid weather.
